A Vancouver dance society is putting a $250 prize on the line for the best costume at its Halloween party this Sunday, and the people judging it are dance teachers.

Rueda de la Vida, a non-profit salsa and bachata society, is holding its Halloween Fiesta on Sunday, November 1 at Anomaly Studios on West 6th Avenue. The winner of its costume contest takes home a $250 dining credit at Reflections The Garden Terrace at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia.

Who decides

Rueda de la Vida’s instructors will judge the costumes and announce the winner at 8 p.m., midway through the evening’s social dance. Entrants must be present to win.

The night

The evening starts with the society’s regular improver and intermediate classes from 5 to 7 p.m. The Halloween social follows from 7 to 9 p.m.

The social runs on two floors, one playing salsa and one bachata, and dancers can move between them all night. It is open to all levels.

Getting in

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. University and college students get in free with a valid student ID, as do Rueda de la Vida’s own students.
