Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and health officials to provide COVID-19 update
EDMONTON — Alberta Premier Jason Kenney and health officials are to provide a COVID-19 update this afternoon.
Kenney, along with chief medical health officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw and Alberta Health Services CEO Dr. Verna Yiu, are expected to speak to the media at 1 p.m.
Last week, the province moved to close loopholes the public might be using to avoid wearing masks in public indoor spaces.
Hinshaw said anyone not wearing a face covering due to health reasons will need to have a medical exception letter.
On the weekend, a Calgary mayoral candidate who is under a restraining order and a pastor were both charged for allegedly violating COVID-19 rules.
Police say that Kevin J. Johnston was in violation of a court order when he attended a gathering Saturday.
Pastor Tim Stephens was arrested Sunday for organizing a church service that police say did not comply with public health orders on masking, physical distancing and attendance limits.
