VANCOUVER — In the last election in Stikine, Doug Donaldson of the NDP took 52.10 per cent of the vote, defeating Wanda Good of the BC Liberal Party by a margin of 13.35 percentage points.

Donaldson, who served as the minister of forests, lands, natural resource operations and rural development, isn't seeking re-election this year. Good is not running again either.

Gordon Sebastian is the candidate for the BC Liberal Party and Nathan Cullen is running for the NDP.

Also in the race are Darcy Repen for the Rural BC party and Rod Taylor for the Christian Heritage Party of BC.

The Stikine riding includes the communities of Telkwa and Smithers.

There are 14,250 registered voters in the riding, compared to 13,985 in the last election.

As of Oct. 20, 1,234 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.

The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 65.61 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.

At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
