Surrey-Cloverdale election riding preview

VANCOUVER — In the last election in Surrey-Cloverdale, Marvin Hunt of the BC Liberal Party took 47.67 per cent of the vote, defeating Rebecca Smith of the NDP by a margin of 8.81 percentage points.

Hunt is up for re-election this year. Smith is running as well.

Aisha Bali is the candidate for the Conservative party and Mike Starchuk is running for the NDP.

Marcella Williams is running as an Independent.

The Surrey-Cloverdale riding is located in Metro Vancouver.

There are 45,193 registered voters in the riding, compared to 40,828 in the last election.

As of Oct. 20, 10,196 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.

The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 61.84 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.

At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
