Nechako Lakes election riding preview

VANCOUVER — It was a landslide victory in the last election in Nechako Lakes when John Rustad of the BC Liberal Party took 54.39 per cent of the vote, defeating Anne Marie Sam of the NDP by a margin of 24.58 percentage points.

Rustad is up for re-election this year. Sam is running as well.

Also in the race are Dan Stuart for the Christian Heritage Party of BC and Jon Rempel for the Libertarian party.

Margo Maley is running as an Independent.

The Nechako Lakes riding includes the communities of Fort St. James, Burns Lake, Vanderhoof and Houston.

There are 17,418 registered voters in the riding, compared to 16,636 in the last election.

As of Oct. 20, 1,151 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.

The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 59.06 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.

At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
