Peace River South election riding preview

VANCOUVER — It was a landslide victory in the last election in Peace River South when Mike Bernier of the BC Liberal Party took 75.97 per cent of the vote, defeating Stephanie Goudie of the NDP by a margin of 51.94 percentage points.

Bernier is up for re-election this year. Goudie, however, is not running again.

Cory Longley is the candidate for the NDP and Kathleen Connolly is running for the Conservative party.

Also in the race is Dorothy Smith for the Wexit BC party.

The Peace River South riding includes the communities of Tumbler Ridge and Dawson Creek.

There are 17,944 registered voters in the riding, compared to 17,746 in the last election.

As of Oct. 20, 813 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.

The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 49.97 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.

At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
