Saskatchewan Party Leader Scott Moe promises to expand insulin pump program
REGINA — Saskatchewan Party Leader Scott Moe is promising to expand an insulin pump program for people living with diabetes if the party wins the Oct.26 provincial election.
The current program covers the cost of insulin pumps and supplies for people younger than 25, who live with Type 1 diabetes.
Moe is committing to expand the program to all ages, which would be expected to help about 400 people.
He's also promising to cover the cost of glucose monitoring systems for people under 18.
The systems allow people to share their levels with others in real-time through smartphones, which the party says is helpful for parents with young kids.
The promises are expected to cost about $4.6 million.
Moe says he recognizes people living with diabetes face a financial burden and his party wants to help reduce some of the cost.
“Making life more affordable and helping Saskatchewan residents manage their diabetes (is) part of our plan for a strong Saskatchewan," Moe said at a campaign stop in Regina on Wednesday morning.
