Health officials report three new cases of COVID-19 in Prince Edward Island Thursday

CHARLOTTETOWN — Health officials in Prince Edward Island are reporting three new cases of COVID-19 in the province today.

Two of the cases are related to travel outside the province and one is a close contact of a previously announced case.

There are now 29 active cases of COVID-19 in P.E.I.

Chief public health officer Dr. Heather Morrison says officials are facing a challenge to get the current wave of cases under control.

She says there appears to be community transmission with not all the cases linked to travel.

About 95 per cent of Islanders aged 12 and over have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 91.6 per cent are fully vaccinated with two doses.
