Health officials in Prince Edward Island report one new case of COVID-19

CHARLOTTETOWN — Prince Edward Island is reporting one new case of COVID-19 today.

Chief public health officer Dr. Heather Morrison says the case involves a person under the age of 19 who is a close contact of a previously reported infection.

The Island has 29 active reported cases of the disease.

Morrison says there have been 28 cases tied to a cluster detected on Nov. 17 in Prince County.

She says Prince Edward Island will continue to test visitors at points of entry and will recommend they be retested between the fourth and eighth day after they arrive.

Morrison says an update will be provided by the end of the week on possible temporary measures to further protect residents of P.E.I. from the importation and transmission of the novel coronavirus and its variants.
