WINNIPEG — Former MP Shelly Glover is one of two candidates for the Manitoba Progressive Conservative party leadership. The winner is to be announced Saturday.

Born: Jan. 2, 1967.

Early years: Born in Saskatoon and raised in Winnipeg, Glover recalls growing up witnessing violence between her parents. She studied law enforcement.

Before politics: Glover held a variety of jobs with the Winnipeg Police Service, including as a uniformed patrol officer and as media spokeswoman at news conferences. She is Metis and fluent in French.

Political record: Glover was first elected to the House of Commons in 2008 when she took the Liberal stronghold of St. Boniface in Winnipeg for the Conservatives. She was re-elected in 2011. Her time in Ottawa included serving as minister of heritage and of official languages, as well as regional lead minister for Manitoba. She did not seek re-election in 2015.

Family: Glover and her husband, Bruce, have five children.
