Moe unsure when cancelled health-care services will resume, looks to privatization

REGINA — Premier Scott Moe says he doesn't know what Saskatchewan's plan is to reschedule hundreds of cancelled health-care services.

The province is dealing with the fourth wave of COVID-19 and continues to have the highest weekly rates of cases and deaths in the country.

All elective surgeries were cut to redeploy health-care workers, as were urgent surgeries for people needing open-heart or brain procedures.

The province's organ donation program was also suspended.

COVID-19 infections have been declining in recent weeks and the federal government recently sent nurses to the province to help.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority says there's no plan in place to bring back the cancelled services.

Moe says privatization of testing and contact tracing could free up health-care workers.
