FREDERICTON — Public health officials in New Brunswick are reporting four new cases of COVID-19 in the province. 

One of the cases is in the Four Seasons Residence, an adult special care home in Balmoral, near Campbellton, N.B., leading officials to declare an outbreak in the home.

"We are taking very aggressive steps at this moment to limit the impact of this outbreak. The entire facility is being tested with regards to residents and staff," chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell said at a news conference in Fredericton.

Russell said there is one new case in the Moncton area and the others are all in or around Campbellton.

There are currently 51 active cases in the province, and four people are being treated in hospital.

Russell said New Brunswickers who travel outside the province for work will now be subject to modified self-isolation rules for 14 days when they return home. They will have the option of shortening the isolation period by being voluntarily tested for COVID-19 and having negative results and no symptoms.

Premier Blaine Higgs says the measures are necessary because close to 95 per cent of the COVID-19 cases in New Brunswick are the result of travel or someone who has been in close contact with another traveller who is positive.
