Brenda Bailey of the NDP has been elected as the new MLA in Vancouver-False Creek, a riding previously held by the BC Liberal Party. Bailey won 4,318 out of 9,679 counted votes (44.61 per cent) with 94 of 112 polls reporting.

Sam Sullivan of the BC Liberal Party won 3,587 votes (37.06 per cent). Maayan Kreitzman of the Green party won 1,328 votes (13.72 per cent). Erik Gretland of the Conservative party won 255 votes (2.63 per cent). Naomi Chocyk of the Libertarian party won 191 votes (1.97 per cent).

As of 11:26 p.m., The Canadian Press is projecting the BC NDP has won a majority government. The party has won or is leading in 55 of 87 seats. The BC Liberal Party has won or is leading in 29, and the BC Green Party has won or is leading in three seats.

As of Oct. 23, 13,365 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters in the riding. There are a total of 43,388 registered voters in Vancouver-False Creek.

Provincewide, 724,279 mail-in ballots have been sent out, and there are 3,485,858 registered voters.

Mail-in ballots will be counted by hand, starting in 13 days.
