Cariboo-Chilcotin election night result
VANCOUVER โ Cariboo-Chilcotin election results as of Oct. 24, 2020 at 11:14 p.m.:
Lorne Doerkson of the BC Liberal Party has been elected as the new MLA in Cariboo-Chilcotin, keeping the seat for the party. Doerkson won 5,239 out of 9,975 counted votes (52.52 per cent) with 68 of 71 polls reporting.
Scott Andrews of the NDP won 3,115 votes (31.23 per cent). David Laing of the Green party won 1,010 votes (10.13 per cent). Katya Potekhina, an Independent, won 387 votes (3.88 per cent). James Buckley of the Libertarian party won 224 votes (2.25 per cent).
As of 11:14 p.m., The Canadian Press is projecting the BC NDP has won a majority government. The party has won or is leading in 55 of 87 seats. The BC Liberal Party has won or is leading in 29, and the BC Green Party has won or is leading in three seats.
As of Oct. 23, 3,121 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters in the riding. There are a total of 23,360 registered voters in Cariboo-Chilcotin.
Provincewide, 724,279 mail-in ballots have been sent out, and there are 3,485,858 registered voters.
Mail-in ballots will be counted by hand, starting in 13 days.
