VANCOUVER — It was a landslide victory in the last election in Victoria-Swan Lake when Rob Fleming of the NDP took 53.60 per cent of the vote, defeating Christopher Maxwell of the Green party by a margin of 23.89 percentage points.

Fleming, who served as the minister of education, is up for re-election this year. Maxwell, however, is not running again.

Annemieke Holthuis is the candidate for the Green party and David Somerville is running for the BC Liberal Party.

Also in the race is Walt Parsons for the Communist Party of BC.

Jenn Smith is running as an Independent.

The Victoria-Swan Lake riding is located in Victoria.

There are 40,590 registered voters in the riding, compared to 39,046 in the last election.

As of Oct. 20, 12,978 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.

The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 64.33 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.

At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
