Vancouver-Mount Pleasant election riding preview

VANCOUVER — It was a landslide victory in the last election in Vancouver-Mount Pleasant when Melanie Mark of the NDP took 65.33 per cent of the vote, defeating Jerry Kroll of the Green party by a margin of 48.40 percentage points.

Mark, who served as the minister of advanced education, skills and training, is up for re-election this year. Kroll, however, is not running again.

George Vassilas is the candidate for the BC Liberal Party and Kelly Tatham is running for the Green party.

The Vancouver-Mount Pleasant riding is located in Vancouver.

There are 45,267 registered voters in the riding, compared to 42,848 in the last election.

As of Oct. 20, 11,054 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.

The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 57.62 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.

At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
