Prince George-Mackenzie election riding preview

VANCOUVER — It was a landslide victory in the last election in Prince George-Mackenzie when Mike Morris of the BC Liberal Party took 57.12 per cent of the vote, defeating Bobby Deepak of the NDP by a margin of 25.47 percentage points.

Morris is up for re-election this year. Deepak, however, is not running again.

Catharine Kendall is the candidate for the Green party and Joan Atkinson is running for the NDP.

Also in the race are Dee Kranz for the Christian Heritage Party of BC and Raymond Rodgers for the Libertarian party.

The Prince George-Mackenzie riding includes the communities of Mackenzie and Prince George.

There are 34,433 registered voters in the riding, compared to 32,941 in the last election.

As of Oct. 20, 4,652 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.

The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 57.44 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.

At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
