Langford-Juan de Fuca election riding preview

VANCOUVER — It was a landslide victory in the last election in Langford-Juan de Fuca when NDP Leader John Horgan took 52.75 per cent of the vote, defeating Cathy Noel of the BC Liberal Party by a margin of 26.64 percentage points.

Horgan, who is the province's premier, is up for re-election this year. Noel, however, is not running again.

Gord Baird is the candidate for the Green party and Kelly Darwin is running for the BC Liberal Party.

Also in the race is Tyson Strandlund for the Communist Party of BC.

The Langford-Juan de Fuca riding is in the Victoria area.

There are 47,552 registered voters in the riding, compared to 40,532 in the last election.

As of Oct. 20, 12,120 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.

The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 62.11 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.

At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
