Kelowna-Mission election riding preview

VANCOUVER — It was a landslide victory in the last election in Kelowna-Mission when Steve Thomson of the BC Liberal Party took 57.18 per cent of the vote, defeating Harwinder Sandhu of the NDP by a margin of 35.94 percentage points.

Thomson isn't seeking re-election this year. Sandhu is not running again either.

The Green party is running Amanda Poon as its candidate, Krystal Smith is the candidate for the NDP and Renee Merrifield is running for the BC Liberal Party.

The Kelowna-Mission riding is located in Kelowna.

There are 50,150 registered voters in the riding, compared to 46,898 in the last election.

As of Oct. 20, 9,512 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.

The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 57.67 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.

At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
