Fraser-Nicola election riding preview
VANCOUVER — It was a tight race in the last election in Fraser-Nicola when Jackie Tegart of the BC Liberal Party took 41.79 per cent of the vote, defeating Harry Lali of the NDP by a margin of 3.32 percentage points.
Tegart is up for re-election this year. Lali, however, is not running again.
Aaron Sumexheltza is the candidate for the NDP and Jonah Timms is running for the Green party.
Dennis Adamson and Mike Bhangu are running as Independents.
The Fraser-Nicola riding includes the communities of Hope, Ashcroft, Lillooet, Merritt and Logan Lake.
There are 26,500 registered voters in the riding, compared to 24,757 in the last election.
As of Oct. 20, 2,509 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.
The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 64.04 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.
At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
