Cariboo-Chilcotin election riding preview
VANCOUVER โ It was a landslide victory in the last election in Cariboo-Chilcotin when Donna Barnett of the BC Liberal Party took 58.77 per cent of the vote, defeating Sally Watson of the NDP by a margin of 32.54 percentage points.
Barnett isn't seeking re-election this year. Watson is not running again either.
The Green party is running David Laing as its candidate, Lorne Doerkson is the candidate for the BC Liberal Party and Scott Andrews is running for the NDP.
Also in the race is James Buckley for the Libertarian party.
Katya Potekhina is running as an Independent.
The Cariboo-Chilcotin riding includes the communities of One Hundred Mile House and Williams Lake.
There are 25,306 registered voters in the riding, compared to 24,012 in the last election.
As of Oct. 20, 3,121 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.
The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 60.79 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.
At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
