Burnaby-Deer Lake election riding preview
VANCOUVER โ In the last election in Burnaby-Deer Lake, Anne Kang of the NDP took 47.89 per cent of the vote, defeating Karen Xiao Bao Wang of the BC Liberal Party by a margin of 12.35 percentage points.
Kang, who served as the minister of citizens' services, is up for re-election this year. Wang, however, is not running again.
Glynnis Chan is the candidate for the BC Liberal Party and Mehreen Chaudry is running for the Green party.
The Burnaby-Deer Lake riding is located in Metro Vancouver.
There are 37,220 registered voters in the riding, compared to 34,716 in the last election.
As of Oct. 20, 6,786 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.
The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 53 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.
At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
