Abbotsford West election riding preview
VANCOUVER โ It was a landslide victory in the last election in Abbotsford West when Michael de Jong of the BC Liberal Party took 55.23 per cent of the vote, defeating Preet Rai of the NDP by a margin of 24.46 percentage points.
De Jong is up for re-election this year. Rai is running as well.
Kevin Eastwood is the candidate for the Green party and Michael Henshall is running for the Conservative party.
Also in the race is Sukhi Gill for the BC Vision party.
The Abbotsford West riding is located in Abbotsford.
There are 39,087 registered voters in the riding, compared to 36,975 in the last election.
As of Oct. 20, 5,231 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.
The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 57.3 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.
At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
