Abbotsford-Mission election riding preview
VANCOUVER โ It was a landslide victory in the last election in Abbotsford-Mission when Simon Gibson of the BC Liberal Party took 51.19 per cent of the vote, defeating Andrew Christie of the NDP by a margin of 22.02 percentage points.
Gibson is up for re-election this year. Christie, however, is not running again.
The NDP is running Pam Alexis as its candidate, Stephen Fowler is the candidate for the Green party and Trevor Hamilton is running for the Conservative party.
Also in the race is Aeriol Alderking for the Christian Heritage Party of BC.
The Abbotsford-Mission riding includes the communities of Chilliwack, Mission and Abbotsford.
There are 47,043 registered voters in the riding, compared to 42,724 in the last election.
As of Oct. 20, 8,119 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.
The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 59.2 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.
At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
