Saskatchewan NDP promise funding for more teachers to reduce class sizes

SASKATOON — The Saskatchewan New Democrats are promising funds to make smaller classroom sizes and hire more teachers if elected on Oct. 26.

Leader Ryan Meili says the NDP will spend $125 million to fund 1,000 teachers, 750 educational assistants and 400 caretakers.

Meili says the COVID-19 pandemic has put extra pressures on schools, which were already burdened by full classrooms and more high-needs students.

He says reducing class sizes is a matter of safety.

Meili says putting money into classrooms is a generational investment that will build a future the province can be proud of.

The party has 14 teachers running in the provincial election.
