Sitka Media’s sole director is Anthem Properties CEO, filings show

The only director of Sitka Media, a B.C. news and politics site launched this year, is Eric Carlson, founder and CEO of Vancouver real estate developer Anthem Properties. That’s according to corporate filings with BC Registry Services.

Sitka Media Ltd. (incorporation number BC1577197) was incorporated on Feb. 10, 2026. Its incorporation application and its current company summary, searched on Nov. 5, each list one director, “Carlson, Eric H.” No officers are listed. Carlson’s address is given as Suite 1100, Bentall 4, 1055 Dunsmuir Street in Vancouver. Sitka Media’s registered and records offices are at the same address.

That suite is Anthem’s head office. The current company summary for Anthem Properties Group Ltd. lists the same “Carlson, Eric H.” at the same address as the company’s director and president, and gives #1100, 1055 Dunsmuir Street as Anthem’s own registered office.

Sitka Media’s privacy policy identifies Sitka Media Ltd. as the legal entity behind the site.

“Who owns @sitkamedia?”

The question of who is behind the outlet was raised publicly on Nov. 1. Patti Bacchus, a former chair of the Vancouver School Board, posted on X: “Who owns @sitkamedia?”

Two days later, Sitka Media published a column by Vesna Sertić, who is identified as the site’s founder. Sertić wrote that she has spent much of her career “working in campaigns, government, and public affairs” and has “no background in journalism.” Sertić recruited reporter Jarryd Jäger in January to run the publication, and then “began raising capital and securing the seed investment to get Sitka Media off the ground.”

Sertić did not name the investor. The column says many prospective investors “wanted a say in our editorial direction,” and finding the right one “took time, but it also brought me a mentor.” It describes the two as sharing “a belief that Canada is the best country in the world and that there is tremendous opportunity to build a more prosperous BC.”

Sertić wrote that editorial independence was “non-negotiable.” She said Jäger, now Sitka’s managing editor and chief reporter, has “oversight and final judgment on what we published.” She added: “Financial and advertising support does not buy favourable coverage — or protection from scrutiny.”

The column does not mention Carlson or Anthem. ThinkPol found no ownership or funding disclosure naming either on Sitka Media’s homepage, its reporters page or its privacy policy.

What the filings do and don’t show

BC company summaries list directors, officers and office addresses. They don’t list shareholders, so the filings alone don’t show who owns Sitka Media or how much any person has invested. Sitka Media’s summary is current to Aug. 31, 2026, and the company had not yet filed an annual report.

The filings do show that Carlson has been Sitka Media’s only director since it was incorporated, and that its official offices are at Anthem’s headquarters.

A developer and a politics site

Anthem, which Carlson founded in 1991, is one of Western Canada’s largest real estate companies. It says it has more than 44,000 homes built, in design or under construction, along with more than 12 million square feet of commercial space and 9,100 acres of land across Canada and the United States.

Sitka Media describes itself as “independent journalism for British Columbia” and a “reader-supported publication covering BC news, politics, and culture.” Its coverage includes provincial and municipal politics, including this fall’s overlapping municipal and provincial elections, and issues such as housing construction and major infrastructure projects. Decisions in all of these areas can affect developers.

Nothing in the filing or Sitka’s published material suggests Carlson has directed any particular coverage. But for a site covering the governments that approve, zone and tax real estate projects, the link to one of the region’s major developers is the kind of financial relationship readers are usually told about.
