COVID-19 case counts continue upward trend in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia

HALIFAX — New Brunswick is reporting 23 new COVID-19 cases across three health zones today.

Deputy chief medical officer Dr. Cristin Muecke says in a news release 19 of the 23 cases involve people who aren't fully vaccinated.

Sixteen new cases are in the Moncton region, where there is a cluster of infections driven by the Alpha variant, which was first detected in the United Kingdom.

Officials say there are four new cases in the Miramichi region and three in the Saint John area. 

The province has a total of 132 active reported cases of COVID-19 and one person in hospital with the disease.

Meanwhile, Nova Scotia is reporting eight new cases today for a total of 32 active infections across the province. One patient is in hospital in intensive care with the disease.
