Seth Rogen replaces Morgan Freeman as new voice of Translink BC

By Marina Wang

“Hey Vancouver, it’s Seth. Here’s a tip to make your transit ride even more awesome,” said actor Seth Rogen in a Twitter video. “I know your bag is probably very nice and you care deeply for it, but that doesn’t mean it needs its own seat.”

Vancouverites can get used to Rogan’s brotherly, stoner chuckle as he reminds you clear up space on a busy train or keep your feet off the seats. Translink BC announced on Thursday via Twitter that the star of Superbad and Knocked-Up will be their new guest voice.

The home-grown actor was selected amid a scandal surrounding Morgan Freeman, the metro system’s original voice of choice. In May, after announcing that Freeman was selected, Translink had to go back on their decision as the 80-year-old actor was accused of sexual harassment.

Twitter was aflutter with suggestions on who should fill the void. In May Rogen tweeted “Yo if they need a replacement now let me know,” and Translink seized the opportunity, announcing now that Rogen was “coming soon”. Other Vancouver-based actors such as Ryan Reynolds and Willian Shatner were also suggested.

Rogen was born in Vancouver and attended Point Grey Secondary School. He now lives between downtown Vancouver and California. In a video about the announcement, Rogen said he was “thrilled” about the opportunity and said he often takes the Canada Line to the Richmond Nightmarket due to difficult parking.

“Any opportunity to enrich the lives of the Canadian people is an opportunity I will take,” said Rogen in the video. “I am honestly always looking for ways to participate in Canadian culture.”
