West Vancouver-Capilano election riding preview

VANCOUVER — It was a landslide victory in the last election in West Vancouver-Capilano when Ralph Sultan of the BC Liberal Party took 57.15 per cent of the vote, defeating Mehdi Russel of the NDP by a margin of 33.52 percentage points.

Sultan isn't seeking re-election this year. Russel is not running again either.

The NDP is running Amelia Hill as its candidate, Karin Kirkpatrick is the candidate for the BC Liberal Party and Rasoul Narimani is running for the Green party.

Anton Shendryk is running as an Independent.

The West Vancouver-Capilano riding is located in Metro Vancouver.

There are 40,857 registered voters in the riding, compared to 38,294 in the last election.

As of Oct. 20, 10,182 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.

The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 62.56 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.

At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
