VANCOUVER — It was a landslide victory in the last election in Vernon-Monashee when Eric Foster of the BC Liberal Party took 47.87 per cent of the vote, defeating Barry Dorval of the NDP by a margin of 18.51 percentage points.
Foster is up for re-election this year. Dorval, however, is not running again.
The NDP is running Harwinder Sandhu as its candidate, Keli Westgate is the candidate for the Green party and Kyle Delfing is running for the Conservative party.
The Vernon-Monashee riding includes the communities of Lumby and Vernon.
There are 52,479 registered voters in the riding, compared to 48,444 in the last election.
As of Oct. 20, 8,747 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.
The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 58.96 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.
At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
