Surrey South election riding preview

VANCOUVER — It was a landslide victory in the last election in Surrey South when Stephanie Cadieux of the BC Liberal Party took 50.94 per cent of the vote, defeating Jonathan Silveira of the NDP by a margin of 18.07 percentage points.

Cadieux is up for re-election this year. Silveira, however, is not running again.

Pauline Greaves is the candidate for the NDP and Tim Ibbotson is running for the Green party.

The Surrey South riding includes the community of White Rock.

There are 52,202 registered voters in the riding, compared to 44,615 in the last election.

As of Oct. 20, 12,703 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.

The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 59.91 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.

At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
