Oak Bay-Gordon Head election riding preview

VANCOUVER — It was a landslide victory in the last election in Oak Bay-Gordon Head when Andrew Weaver of the Green party took 52.20 per cent of the vote, defeating Alex Dutton of the BC Liberal Party by a margin of 28.45 percentage points.

Weaver, who was the Green party's previous leader, isn't seeking re-election this year. Dutton is not running again either.

The NDP is running Murray Rankin as its candidate, Nicole Duncan is the candidate for the Green party and Roxanne Helme is running for the BC Liberal Party.

Also in the race is Florian Castle for the Communist Party of BC.

The Oak Bay-Gordon Head riding is located in the Victoria area.

There are 42,385 registered voters in the riding, compared to 41,117 in the last election.

As of Oct. 20, 15,918 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.

The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 71.99 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.

At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
