VANCOUVER — In the last election in Nelson-Creston, Michelle Mungall of the NDP took 42.19 per cent of the vote, defeating Kim Charlesworth of the Green party by a margin of 14.03 percentage points.
Mungall, who served as the minister of jobs, economic development and competitiveness, isn't seeking re-election this year. Charlesworth is not running again either.
The NDP is running Brittny Anderson as its candidate, Nicole Charlwood is the candidate for the Green party and Tanya Finley is running for the BC Liberal Party.
Also in the race is Terry Tiessen for the Libertarian party.
The Nelson-Creston riding includes the communities of Creston, Nelson and Salmo.
There are 29,389 registered voters in the riding, compared to 28,476 in the last election.
As of Oct. 20, 4,041 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.
The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 64.2 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.
At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
