Langley election riding preview

VANCOUVER — In the last election in Langley, Mary Polak of the BC Liberal Party took 44.40 per cent of the vote, defeating Gail Chaddock-Costello of the NDP by a margin of 9.79 percentage points.

Polak is up for re-election this year. Chaddock-Costello, however, is not running again.

The NDP is running Andrew Mercier as its candidate, Bill Masse is the candidate for the Green party and Shelly Jan is running for the Conservative party.

The Langley riding is located in Metro Vancouver.

There are 44,715 registered voters in the riding, compared to 40,998 in the last election.

As of Oct. 20, 8,944 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.

The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 59.4 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.

At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
