Kamloops-North Thompson election riding preview

VANCOUVER — It was a landslide victory in the last election in Kamloops-North Thompson when Peter Milobar of the BC Liberal Party took 48.32 per cent of the vote, defeating Barb Nederpel of the NDP by a margin of 17.97 percentage points.

Milobar is up for re-election this year. Nederpel, however, is not running again.

The Conservative party is running Dennis Giesbrecht as its candidate, Sadie Hunter is the candidate for the NDP and Thomas Martin is running for the Green party.

Brandon Russell is running as an Independent.

The Kamloops-North Thompson riding includes the communities of Kamloops, Rayleigh and Dallas.

There are 44,809 registered voters in the riding, compared to 41,492 in the last election.

As of Oct. 20, 5,744 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.

The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 60.34 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.

At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
