Delta South election riding preview

VANCOUVER — It was a landslide victory in the last election in Delta South when Ian Paton of the BC Liberal Party took 44.10 per cent of the vote, defeating Nicholas Wong, who ran as an Independent, by a margin of 18.58 percentage points.

Paton is up for re-election this year. Wong, however, is not running again.

Bruce Reid is the candidate for the NDP and Peter van der Velden is running for the Green party.

The Delta South riding includes the communities of Vancouver, Tsawwassen and Ladner.

There are 37,039 registered voters in the riding, compared to 35,234 in the last election.

As of Oct. 20, 8,673 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.

The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 71.79 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.

At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
