Burnaby-Lougheed election riding preview

VANCOUVER — In the last election in Burnaby-Lougheed, Katrina Chen of the NDP took 48.06 per cent of the vote, defeating Steve Darling of the BC Liberal Party by a margin of 11.10 percentage points.

Chen, who served as the minister of state for child care, is up for re-election this year. Darling, however, is not running again.

Andrew Williamson is the candidate for the Green party and Tariq Malik is running for the BC Liberal Party.

Also in the race is Dominique Paynter for the Libertarian party.

The Burnaby-Lougheed riding is located in Metro Vancouver.

There are 39,349 registered voters in the riding, compared to 37,641 in the last election.

As of Oct. 20, 8,530 vote-by-mail packages had been issued to registered voters.

The previous voter turnout rate in the riding was 60.81 per cent, compared to 61.18 per cent provincewide.

At dissolution, the NDP held 41 seats, the BC Liberal Party had 41 seats and the Green party two seats. Two seats were held by Independents and one seat was vacant.
