REGINA — Saskatchewan NDP Leader Ryan Meili is promising that, if his party wins the Oct. 26 provincial election, he will call a judicial inquiry into a controversial billion-dollar bypass project and inland port.
He says taxpayers deserve to get to the bottom of land deals behind the construction of the government-owned Global Transportation Hub west of Regina.
The NDP has raised concerns for years about the site, which is now being managed privately.
He also promises to bring in stronger conflict-of-interest rules for members of the legislature, and ban union and corporate political donations.
Meili says it's important to restore trust because there's been many concerns raised over the years about the millions spent on the bypass and transportation hub.
He also says if there's hope of selling the Global Transportation Hub as the Saskatchewan Party government wants to, the site needs to be clear of a "cloud of corruption."
